BACK
Meet Shebot. Shebot is a Pic Mark III minisumo, owned by Louise. I've since added a few custom features to make it more competitive in our recent sumo comp. While it finished fourth over all. It had a legitimate chance to win every round it was in. That alone was a victory when you consider the quality of the competitors from the competition.
We've recently given it some new female cosmetic style since the comp pic.
Also its worth noting that this sumo robot was recently featured on a local TV show called "The Fan Show" here in St Louis on channel 11. It was victorious on its first network TV appearance.
Here she is throwing down on the Legobot during the competition. Special thanks to Phil from robomo for the use of this pic.
Meet Spike.
Spike is a Wash U. Atmel Mega16 board (also called a "Brandon board") designed by fellow robomo member Brandon.
The chassis is a custom fabricated unit with tracked skid steer control. Although I didn't get it finished for the competition. It would have tried its best for not being an efficent design for sumo combat.
My design for this minisumo was not to win the competition, but to have a unique evil style unlike most minisumo robots.
Special thanks to Kevin, and Ken from robomo for help and or advice with this project. I'm presently reengineering this entire bot in order to make it more evil, and to do some updates.
Meet Toxic Avenger.
He's a Mark III minisumo kit available online. I bought him so I'd have a better sumo to matchup with the Shebot when doing educational presentations.
His color didn't come out very well in the 5 pictures I took of him. I guess my $25.00 camera doesn't like neon green!!!
Its also worth noting that Toxie was the opponent against the Shebot on
"The Fan Show". So even though it lost this on-air match, it still won by giving our group free advertising on
network TV.
Meet T.A.B.Sumobot.
Like the Shebot this is a kit sold through online retailers. While it is a great kit for beginners, I wasn't impressed with it. Its preprogrammed modes of operation lend this robot to premature motor failure. I've since given it to a friend, who will use it for teaching college students.
* Toxie was shown in Servo magazine July '07 p.51
* Special thanks to Mickey Carol from the movie
"The Wizard of Oz" for autographing Toxie.
Meet "Two Face". Its a scratch built sumo robot using 2 solarbotics motors,
2 Sharp ranging sensors (not shown)
2 standard IRs for ring detection,
and the controller is a freescale micro.
Meet "Boesumo". Its a modified boebot turned into a mini sumo robot. Theres not much to tell on this one, as the only thing changed from the stock parts is the custom made blade.
Meet "Botshe".
Botshe is Louises other mini sumo, and its Shebot's evil counterpart. Otherwise its a standard Parallax mini sumo robot.
Meet "Mombot".
For Christmas I gave my family mini sumo's. As such I actually got my
mom to build her first robot.
Its a stock Parallax kit.
Meet "the Blues".
Over the years my family has been huge St Louis Blues fans.
As such, my father built his first robot as a dedication to the Blues hockey team.
Meet "the Great Pumkin".
Its my Christmas present to myself.
Its also a stock Parallax mini sumo kit.
I've programmed it to NOT use any enemy detection sensors, and yet it really works good at finding the enemy robot via triangle location.
Meet "Sumovore"
This is a Solarbotics Sumovore kit robot. I've slightly modified it, but basically its  the stock robot kit.
This is the old version of Spike.
Its presently being rebuilt to be more competitive.
